How to Find the Right GMA Pallets

GMA Pallets

A GMA pallet is one of the six most common pallet sizes that help mobilise packaged consumer goods and ensure that healthy, affordable food options are available to everyone.

When selecting GMA pallets, choose the ones that will increase efficiency. It is always a good idea to consider factors such as the intended use of pallets, usage, grade, frequency of transport, and load requirements.

The following points outline the key factors to consider when selecting the right GMA pallets.

Dimensions and Weight Capacity

The measurement of the GMA pallets should be 48” x 40”, which contains seven top deck boards and five base boards. Inspect the quality of the wood; it should be a high-density hardwood. The stringers should be 1 3/8” thick, 3 1/2” tall, and 48” long.

It must bear the load capacity of 2500 pounds, and there should be a four-way forklift entry on the side of the pallet, and the base and top deck boards should be 5/8 inches thick. The bottom of the pallet should have two boards, and between the notches should be three boards. Look for these measurements for increased efficiency.

Construction

Look for high-quality hardwood (such as oak or maple) or softwood (like yellow pine or SPF) construction to increase the strength and durability. Check that the boards are securely fastened with high-quality nails.

Pallets should have wheels constructed in them that will transfer the weight to the wheels. Ensure that it has a four-way forklift entry with notches on the sides. If you are selecting pallets made from plastic, look for the quality of plastic to meet the regulations. The stringers should be constructed to support the members.

Grades

Look for the type of grades:

Grade A pallets are worthwhile investments for high-demanding operations because they have been used only a few times, kept in good condition, and will only show minimal discolouration.

Grade B pallets are used for day-to-day operations, offering a balance between durability and affordability. However, they require repair at least once and exhibit multiple discolourations.

Grade C is of the lowest quality and may have significant damage; it is best for low-demand applications. Select one of the types according to your needs and the budget.

Stability and Maintenance

Test the pallet with your inventory before outfitting your entire system to ensure stability and prevent load imbalance. Inspect the pallets for defects, such as broken boards or nails, to ensure safety. Also, look for loose screws to avoid damage. Check for the boards that significantly bent. Inspect the chemical and pest exposure to prevent contamination that makes the pallets unsafe for use.

Export Requirements

Check the export requirements, ensure that the pallets are ISMP-15, which means that they have been heat-treated to prevent pests. Avoid any pallets marked “MB,” which show that they are treated with the hazardous chemical methyl bromide.

Final Thought

The GMA pallets enhance efficient working and help to give a fast output. By considering the correct size, dimensions, types of grades, and stability, you can choose a cost-effective palette for yourself.
